The Editor

It's no news to anyone, but the Pompidou Center is getting ready to enter an enormous renovation phase that will last 5 years. During this time, all exhibition rooms will be closed. What’s the goal of this project? To update the building with energy efficiency improvements, an upgrade to the fire safety system, facade renovations, and also addressing asbestos issues in certain walls. The Parisian temple of contemporary art also plans to redefine its spaces to accommodate events, including assembling seating and stages in the central agora, adding shops, cafés, and restaurants, and, most importantly, making the enormous panoramic terrace on the 7th floor accessible, which has been closed to the public until now.

To ensure everything goes smoothly, the Center and all its spaces will gradually close between January and the summer of 2025.

, for a planned reopening at the beginning of 2030. So before you shout ciao Pompidou, check out the latest exhibitions that will keep the museum buzzing until the doors close.

China, a New Generation of Artists

Since last October, the young contemporary Chinese scene has been gracing part of the walls at the Centre Pompidou with the group exhibition China, a New Generation of Artists. Here, 21 artists – born between the late '70s and the early '90s – have gathered their works, all connected by the character 目 (mù), which translates to "eye," symbolizing both vision and the capacity to see reality. Through videos, paintings, sculptures, installations, and photographs, the artists immerse us in contemporary themes such as openness to the world, the environmental crisis, and the transformation of lifestyles in Chinese society.

Suzanne Valadon

An iconic and bold artist, Suzanne Valadon stands out for creating in defiance of the dominant artistic movements of her time. Indeed, she continuously painted reality at a time when cubism and abstract art were taking over, focusing on nudity and the feminine. Overall, the exhibition brings together nearly 200 works, including drawings and paintings, which can be explored through five thematic sections. The journey traces the unique life path of the artist, from her beginnings as the favorite model of all of Montmartre to her artistic recognition.

Paris Noir

Starting March 19, the Centre Pompidou shines a light on the influence of Black artists in France from the 1940s to 2000, with the exhibition Paris Noir. This event brings together 150 Afro-descendant artists, key figures in a cosmopolitan Paris, most of whose works have yet to be showcased in France. Blending resistance and creativity, the exhibition's journey spans over half a century of struggles, from the fall of apartheid to African independences, all while highlighting the ongoing battle against racism in France.

Wolfgang Tillmans

Just before its final closing – for only 5 years, we remind you – the Pompidou Center wraps up its programming with a carte blanche given to  Wolfgang Tillmans. The German artist and photographer will take over the more than 6,000 m2 of the Public Information Library (Bpi) on level 2, exploring the architecture as well as the functions of the Center through his unique aesthetic universe. Committed and always unconventional, Wolfgang Tillmans uses various supports and mediums, inviting us to discover, for this grand finale of the Pompidou Center, stunning creations specially made for the exhibition.
