Another Light
at the Musée du Luxembourg

It’s easy to reduce Soulages' work to the paintings he himself calls outrenoir. Huge swathes of black paint reflecting light to bring out the color. However, he only developed this technique in the 70s, after already having a careers of over 20 years, and it’s actually much more diverse and rich than that. Indeed, while the artist left behind more than 1700 canvas paintings, he also gifted us hundreds of paper paintings (over 800, just to give you an idea), all equally stunning. And it’s these works that the Musée du Luxembourg will showcase starting this fall.

To Dazzle Paris at the Musée d’Orsay

He is undoubtedly one of the greatest American painters of the 19th century, and without a doubt the greatest portraitist of the era. However, this is the first time that a monographic exhibition will be dedicated in France to John Singer Sargent. It was indeed in the capital that the artist developed his technique and refined his style, and even created some of his greatest masterpieces. The Museum d’Orsay pays a well-deserved tribute at the end of the year by gathering over 90 paintings by the artist, including some never before shown to the French public. It’s a unique and unmissable opportunity to discover his subtle paintings, full of poetry, sensitivity, and gentleness.

Modernity Revealed at the MEP

Starting from the 1920s, Edward Weston, a key figure in American and global photography, moves away from a pictorialist style (inspired by painting codes) towards modernity. Through more refined, simplified shots, he hones his style by simplifying his compositions, eliminating artifice and favoring lines, shapes, and light. The result is a collection of powerful, poetic images, of which more than a hundred will be showcased this autumn at the MEP.
