Firebird: A Parisian Exclusive

This is the moment you won't want to miss. To celebrate its return to France, the Dance Theatre of Harlem is bringing back its legendary Firebird, part of Program A and exclusively performed in Paris. This iconic classic from the company, first created in 1982, has captivated audiences since its very first world tour. A cult ballet that only the Parisians will have the chance to (re)discover on stage.

A ballet born in the streets of Harlem

The story is thrilling. In 1969, right in the midst of the civil rights movement, Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook founded the Dance Theatre of Harlem with a revolutionary idea: ballet belongs to everyone. At that time, the goal was to introduce underprivileged children from the Harlem neighborhood to classical ballet and widely open the doors of dance to the African American community. Nearly 60 years later, the company has become one of the boldest in the world.

28 Dancers, Two Programs, Zero Limits

On stage, it's a fascinating blend of classical rigor and contemporary creativity, infused with Afro-American influences. Bach, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, James Blake—this repertoire confidently crosses genres. The good news is that two distinct programs (A and B) will be presented alternately by the 28 dancers of the troupe. In other words, you can return twice without seeing the same show. It's the perfect opportunity to (re)discover a vision of ballet that breaks all the rules.
