The sun sets without a sound, at the Palais de Tokyo
Between ghosts of history and dreamlike landscapes, Vietnamese artist Thao Nguyen Phan takes over the Palais de Tokyo for a journey into the heart of the memories of her homeland, where forgotten tales and contemporary forms engage in a subtle dialogue. Through videos, watercolors, sculptures, and installations, the artist explores the traces left by colonial history and the oral traditions of her country. She revisits the figures of Alexandre de Rhodes, a Jesuit missionary from the 17th century, and Jacques Dournes, a 20th-century ethnologist, to question the complexity of the ties between France and Vietnam. Her work is also intertwined with that of Diem Phung Thi, a modernist artist known for her modular and poetic forms, to whom she pays tribute in a unique artistic exchange.

If the name of Robert Doisneau is world-famous, we often tend to sum up the photographer's work with just one image, that of the famous Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville. However, his work goes far beyond that single piece, as someone whose only aim was to capture the poetry of the present moment left behind hundreds and hundreds of photographs (more than 450,000 to be exact).
