A week ago, McFly and Carlito were contacted by Emmanuel Macron for a huge PR stunt: he asked them to make a video about respecting social distancing measures in exchange for a video at the Elysée Palace. These YouTubers, always on the lookout for new concepts to embarrass themselves on social media – and of course, make a lot of money – decided to take on the challenge. If their video, released last night, reaches 10 million views on YouTube, the President of the Republic will appear in one of their "anecdote contests" videos soon. Needless to say, it's inevitable, given their huge audience on the American platform – number one trend on YouTube in France – and the government's desire to regain popularity.s auprè of young people.

PR stunt or bad calculation ?

The music video for "Je me souviens" is quite ironic, because McFly and Carlito admit in it that they don't follow the barrier gestures at all: at the same time, it must be said that they would have been badly criticized if they had done something serious (as if their audience didn't hear all day long that these measures should be respected).

If middle and high school students (a large part of their YouTube channel audience) liked the video without being aware of what's going on behind the scenes, many internet users, especially students, didn't waste time in reacting.

At the same time... a president who does nothing for his students and who puts on a show on their own turf (YouTube), it gives us something to think about. But above all, YouTube creators who are supposed to support their audience, inviting a man who is expected to make real decisions to participate in a competition of anecdotes... Not everyone is pleased with this and it is bordering on indecency.

It's a PR mishap for the government, targeting only middle school students with this video – who won't be voting in 2022 – but also for McFly and Carlito who, once again just for fun, stoop so low by betraying their audience.
