In Paris, there are dozens and dozens of markets for our utmost delight. These charming places, where, as the rhyme by Henri Dès beautifully puts it, "you can find everything," offer the best of French products and gastronomy. Some, however, stand out a bit more due to the quality of their offerings. This is certainly the case for this institution in the 4th arrondissement, which has just been named one of the best markets in the world by the 2026 ranking from the Food and Wine Awards.
A Historic Place
The Marché des Enfants Rouges was founded by Louis XIII in 1615,
ng> under the name of "Marché du Marais du Temple". More than 410 years later, it continues to delight us every day with dozens of stalls offering the best, whether to fill your basket and cook at home or to sit at a counter and enjoy a delicious break right on the spot. This must-visit address, listed as a historical monument, has managed to gain international recognition over the years, especially thanks to the famous sandwiches from Alain Miam Miam, which have become a must-try for tourists thanks to TikTok and Instagram. And it has just secured a lovely 5th place in the top 10 best food markets in the world.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
An International Ranking
Taking the top spot is the iconic Borough Market in London, a vibrant and diverse market that's over 1000 years old! Following closely are the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok and the Halle Paul Bocuse in Lyon, the only other French institution to make the top tier. The top 5 is rounded out by La Merced Market in Mexico City in 4th place. The rest of the rankings take you to Barcelona (Mercat de la Boqueria), Vancouver (Granville Island Public Market), Kyoto (Nishiki Market), Palermo (Vucciria), and Munich (Viktualienmarkt). And if, like us, you adore these types of places, you now know where to plan your next vacation!
