This Wednesday, September 24th, a UFO appeared on Rue de la Roquette in the 11th. The neighborhood has just welcomed the very first autonomous and connected fish market in Paris: L’Épuisette. The idea? To allow Parisians to easily get their hands on fish and seafood any time they want, day or night, Tuesday to Sunday. A new concept that’s making waves and sparking curiosity among passersby.
Oysters at midnight?
At L’Épuisette, it’s simple: no smiling or shouting fishmonger to greet us, just straightforward lockers and glowing panels that interact with our credit card. A concept launched by the company Mericq, which specializes in selling seafood products according to Le Parisien, that had launched its first autonomous store or...Open 24/7 in Agen, in Lot-et-Garonne. A test that has proven successful according to the manager, Cyril Constans, who is keen on rolling out the concept to reach a younger audience with more urban consumption habits. However, its arrival in the Paris neighborhood raises questions: some may see it as unfair competition to local businesses, while others view it simply as a new service offered to different types of consumers.

Fresh fish and shellfish at your fingertips
So, what exactly can you find in these crates? Fresh fish, shellfish, crustaceans, and all sorts of rillettes fill the 345 refrigerated crates available at L’Épuisette, showcasing a delightful array of seafood just waiting for you. Right now, for autumn, you can find goodies like: weakfish, squid, red mullet, tuna, royal sea bream, monkfish, crab, lobster, oysters, and even scallops. And when it comes to prices, they’re super reasonable: expect €4.50 for a salmon steak, or about fifteen euros for a dozen of Fine de Claire oysters n°3.
On the freshness side, the Mericq company ensures that everything is vacuum-sealed, which keeps it fresh for six to seven days, with regular restocking three times a week. And don’t worry, there’s no risk of getting sick!
