Fans of New Girl or The Bear probably already know the reference, since this Chicago specialty is often mentioned in American series. For others, deep dish pizza is an absolutely decadent dish that lets you hit your weekly calorie goal in just one bite. A little pleasure now within reach, thanks to the opening of the first restaurant 100% dedicated to this dish in the streets of the capital.

A bit of history

Before sending you off to treat yourself at Deep Dish Pizza (the clever name of this new restaurant that serves... deep dish pizzas), we’d like to offer you a short lesson on the history of American cuisine, so

that you can show off a bit to your friends that you bring along with you, and that you know a little about what you put into your body.

To do this, let's travel back in time 80 years to 1940s Chicago. Back then, pizza was often seen as just a snack, something light to satisfy those little hunger pangs. This did not sit well with Ike Sewell and Ric Riccardo, founders of Pizzeria Uno – which still exists today.ore today. To fix the situation, they decide to raise the sides of the dough (much richer than traditional dough) to fill the tart base with a ridiculous amount of cheese, and add the sauces and other toppings directly on top. And there you have it, the deep dish pizza is born.

Gastronomy and refinement in American style

For those with lactose intolerance, we prefer to warn you right away, this creation straight from the cheese paradise may not be for you. But for the rest, good news, the very first deep dish pizza restaurant has just opened in the heart of the 18th. And we can't wait to get it everywhere to load up on sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni.

On the restaurant's menu, you'll find a classic margherita, a traditional pepperoni, and also some more unique recipes (for the Americans), like the queen or the four cheese, because, apparently, there just weren't enough of those! These recipes are pretty mouth-watering, we have to admit, and they are available for 1, 2, or 3-4 people. So now, the next time a series sparks a crazy craving for deep dish pizza, you know where to go!
