A few days ago, during a grand ceremony at the City Hall, Fooding celebrated its 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century of championing free cuisines, liberated from the stiff codes of traditional guides. It was also a chance for them to reveal their list of the best establishments for the past year. And among all the accolades handed out, a spot from the 11th snagged the award for best neighborhood café. So, who are they talking about?

The Best of the Best

Cafés in the capital are like bistros, metro entrances, or Morris columns; they are part of the landscape, and we just can't do without them. On every street corner, there’s a counter to lean on and enjoy...Start of the day, or after lunch, to enjoy a good coffee while exchanging a few words with the boss. We all have our favorites, our hangouts, that embody the spirit of our favorite neighborhood.

This year, one of them has particularly stood out in the eyes of Fooding, winning a highly prestigious title in the capital: best neighborhood café. It's none other than À la Renaissance, located on Rue de la Roquette, just a stone's throw from Place Léon Blum, in the 11th arrondissement. And I must say, for the past few weeks, this spot has truly become a must-visit in the capital.

A shiny new café

Indeed, in September 2025, Régine Robert, who ran this bistro since 1995, passed the baton to Carina Soto Velásquez and Joshua Fontaine (who are also behind the Mary Celeste). And one thing's for sure, the handover has been more than successful. While keeping the strong markers of the place, like the red neon sign, the atmosphere is vibrant and fresh.

they infused it with a fresh modern vibe, and above all, deliciousness, thanks to the arrival in the kitchen of chef Min Wou Choi (who has worked in the kitchens of Saturne and Dauphin). In short, at la Renaissance, it’s a wonderful place to be, whether you’re from the neighborhood or not!
