Located just a few steps away from the former apartments of Napoleon III, complete with a terrace offering a clear view of the Louvre Pyramid, the museum and even the Tuileries Garden and the Eiffel Tower in the distance, Café Richelieu is undoubtedly one of the most charming tea rooms in the City of Light. And we just found a fantastic new reason to visit: a menu crafted by Jessica Prealpato, aka the queen of pastries.
An impressive track record
This is a truly spectacular journey.
Jessica Prealpato. Having worked in the kitchens of Philippe Labbé, Philippe Etchebest and Frédéric Vardon, she also gained experience in luxurious Parisian palaces like the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme (forgive us for naming just a few), before joining the Plaza Athénée in 2015, under the guidance of Alain Ducasse, where she would spend 6 years as one of the few female pastry chefs working in a 3-star restaurant.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
But it was in 2019 that she reached the peak, winning the "Best Pastry Chef in the World" title awarded by the World's 50 Best Restaurants, succeeding Cedric Grolet, and becoming the first woman to receive this award. A few months later, the Gault & Millau named her Pastry Chef of the Year for its 2020 edition.
A Must-Visit New Stop
And for the summer menu at Café Richelieu – Angelina, it's her former mentor, Alain Ducasse, who personally chose her to create the menu. The result is ua menu of magnificent desserts, mostly conceived from ancient seeds and flours, the chef's specialty. These creations highlight her theory of "desséralité," which favors more natural pastries, environmentally friendly, and less sugary. Among the ones you’ll be most eager to taste are the roasted apples Tatin-style, with caramel and black lemon, and the vanilla Saint-Honoré with a hint of cinnamon bud.
