On Tuesday, October 7, and Wednesday, October 8, 2025, a remarkable gathering of passionate bakers took place to determine the candidates competing for the prestigious title of Best Butter Croissant in France 2025. After two days of hard work and methodical tastings, the rankings are finally out! While our artisans from the Île-de-France didn’t take home the gold medal, they still secured a wonderful third place on the podium for this bakery-pastry shop nestled in Clamart.
A national competition to crown the king of croissants
At the premises of the Drôme Ardèche multipurpose training center (CFMDA), 19 candidates gathered to participate in this highly gourmet competition, organized by the National Confederation of French Bakery-Pastry. The goal? Showcase their artisanal know-how and glorify this iconic French pastry, the butter croissant, all while following a strict set of rules.

The candidates presented 30 traditional croissants, each weighing 60 g (after baking), all completed within just 5 hours! The jury then observed, tasted (lucky them!), and evaluated each pastry, considering technique, baking, flakiness, shape, consistency, flavor, crumb, and aroma.
A bakery from the Île-de-France on the podium
During this 6th edition of the Best Butter Croissant contest in France, a bakery from the Île-de-France made a mark and climbed onto the podium. Taking third place was Dylan Da Silva from the bakery-pastry shop Des Racines et du Pain in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine). This establishment is just about forty minutes from Paris and has already proven itself in various competitions. For instance, it won the award for the best traditional French pastry in Greater Paris, as well as first place in the best croissant contest in Greater Paris.

Des Racines et du Pain comes in right after Lilian Pensuet from the bakery-pâtisserie La Petite Catalane in Villeneuve-de-la-Raho, Occitanie, which was awarded the title of Best Butter Croissant in France 2025. A well-deserved gold medal, closely followed by Samuel Dejonghe from the bakery Dejonghe in Les Attaques in the North.s-de-France, which obviously won its prize hands down.
