The Editor

Like any self-respecting Parisian, you’re probably a little bit biased and swear ONLY by your district. Rest assured, you’re not alone, and we totally get you. But are you sure you see your neighborhood objectively? This new ranking, built from the ratings of the capital’s very own residents, might just surprise you.

A surprising survey

For several years now, the website ville-ideale.fr has been inviting the French to rate their city based on some pretty specific criteria (environment, transportation, safety, health, culture, shops…) all scored out of 10. And for the capital, the ratings are broken down by district, allowing for a ranking of the best neighborhoods. Each area gets a score left by Mr. and Mrs. Everybody.

g>. And one thing is for sure, we didn't expect such results. Especially for the bottom of the ranking, which sees... The 10th !

Unambiguous Comments

Yes, we were a bit shocked here at the editorial team to see that the 10th received the worst rating, especially since it’s often considered one of the coolest neighborhoods in Paris, even by us! In the meantime, we have to acknowledge that the comments are quite harsh, and maybe they're not entirely wrong. While not everything in the 10th needs fixing, cars and bikes are everywhere, sometimes a bit chaotically (hello Boulevard Magenta). The streets are not always clean, and the neighborhood’s super festive vibe unfortunately works against it, as noise disturbances and unsanitary conditions can sometimes be a little too much for the locals. As a result, many of them don’t feel very safe in their own neighborhood, and it’s easy to understand why.ue it may be unpleasant. We wouldn't have bet on it, but given the circumstances, we have to bow our heads. Let's also note that it is preceded by the 18th, for quite similar reasons.

The Calm Before Everything

On the flip side, we see that the neighborhoods leading the rankings are mostly quite family-friendly, touristy, and above all… expensive: the 3rd place takes the lead with a lovely average of 8.25. Then there’s the 5th, the 8th, the 12th, the 6th. In other words, these are the spots where people move when they have more than 2 kids and are ready to part with a kidney (each) for a place to live. Meanwhile, the reviews are glowing: it’s clean, green, peaceful, access to education and culture is incredibly easy, and most importantly, you feel safe everywhere. And that, apparently, is priceless (just a figure of speech, of course).

A Rank to Take with a Pinch of Salt

Well, we won't lie to you, given the ratings and comments, it's hard to believe that the panel responsible for the ratings is really super representative of the population of Paris. But it’s still quite informative, and if you want to boost your neighborhood's score, it’s entirely up to you to drop a comment and give it a like (as the kids say). We’ll leave you with the full ranking, so you can judge for yourself the quality of your little piece of land.
