Whether feeling "a little sad" or ready to party all night long, one thing's for sure, this gentleman has certainly made his mark over the last few decades with statements that are often catastrophic, if not downright despicable. Here’s a delightful collection of his worst remarks, which ultimately means we probably won’t miss him too much…

1. « The gas chambers are a detail of history.

In 1987, during a television interview, Jean-Marie Le Pen made a very dramatic misstep by likening the extermination site of thousands of people to a "detail of the history of World War II." Such scandalous comments earned him several convictions for glorifying war crimes and denialism. He would revisit this phrase in 2003, claiming it was "my God, not that serious."

2. « I'm going to make you run, you'll see, the redhead down there. Right? Queer!»

Ten years later, as he prepares to support his daughter Marie-Caroline, who is running in the legislative elections, he is received as he should be by many opponents. In just a few minutes, he doesn't hesitate to jump into the fray, to deliver a few corrections, including to the socialist elected official from the neighboring town, Annette Peulvast-Bergeal. He will emerge from the brawl laughing, proclaiming loudly and clearly, «This makes me feel young again!».

3. « Next time we'll do a delivery.»

Out of context, this statement might seem harmless. However, when he makes this remark in 2014, he is actually talking about the singer Patrick Bruel who, like Yannick Noah, announced that he would refuse to sing in France if Le Pen was elected President of the Republic. It’s a clear allusion to cremation ovens, which understandably sparked some serious reactions.

4. « Durafour crematorium »

During a meeting in 1988, a year after his already extremely problematic comments regarding gas chambers, Le Pen strikes again with a doubtful pun surrounding the last name of the Public Service Minister Michel Durafour. It's a despicable reference to the Shoah, in response to a much more acceptable criticism that was made.

Ready by the minister.

5. « AIDS is contagious through sweat, saliva, and contact. It's a kind of leprosy.»

Indeed, 1987 was a big year for our champion. A few months after the « detail of History», Le Pen this time addresses , spreading absolutely outrageous rumors about their potential contagion. He would later suggest to confine all patients in « leper colonies» to finally put an end to the virus. Wonderful.

6. « French Algeria is a regret. »

Ah, Le Pen and Algeria... A great love story. After being accused of torture acts during the war, Le Pen declared with tremors in his voice that he regretted the divine time when France.

still had colonies on the right and left. Once again, he relied on his favorite strategy: downplaying the horrors to allow himself to say outrageous things.
