If, like us, you feel like you’ve forgotten what the sun looks like, don't worry, it's not your imagination playing tricks on you. Indeed, in November, the City of Light has never been so poorly named, as it has only been blessed with 46 tiny hours and 29 minuscule minutes of sunshine, according to the measurements from the official station of Météo France located in Montsouris Park.

A third less than usual

We know that when autumn comes, the temperatures drop and the sun becomes scarce. That’s how the world has been since time immemorial, and we hope it will always be this way for hundreds of years. However, despite having pretty similar basic criteria, this year 2024 is really testing our nerves.

with a level of grayness well above the norm.

Indeed, the beginning of the month (from the 1st to the 11th) saw a significant drop of 86% compared to the seasonal normals calculated over a period from 1991 to 2020. And throughout the month, even though it's getting a bit better, we still observe a total decrease of 33%. It's worth noting that on certain days, like the weekend of November 2 and 3, the 5th, or even the 8th, there were simply 0 minutes of sunshine.

Days Unlike Any Other

On the flip side, some days have proven to be particularly bright and warm. This includes Monday the 4th, with 8h16 of sunshine, Wednesday the 20th, with 6h52, and especially the last three days of the month, which alone account for 19 hours of sunshine.

light, which is 40% of the total account for the month. The impression of grayness and constant gloom is therefore far from being one, and it reassures us as much as it makes us anxious about what’s to come.

However, if we've missed out on sunshine, the temperatures have remained pretty much average, showing just a 0.1°C deficit, which isn't particularly alarming for this season. Plus, the minimum temperatures are actually higher than average, with only one day of frost recorded, and precipitation levels significantly reduced compared to previous months ! So, it's not all that bad after all.
