For the first time at the municipal level, a feminist questionnaire has been sent to the eight leading candidates declared to succeed Anne Hidalgo in March 2026. From the left to the far right, including the center, everyone must answer thirteen questions about gender parity, gender-based and sexual violence (GBSV), associative funding, and gender budgeting, a tool to steer public policies towards greater equality.

The candidates put through the feminist filter
The questionnaire was sent out this Thursday, October 30, to Emmanuel Grégoire (PS), David Belliard (Les Écologistes), Ian Brossat (Communist Party), Sophia Chikirou (La France Insoumise), Pierre-Yves Bournazel (Horizons/Renaissance), Rachida Dati (Les Républicains), and Thierry Mariani (Rassemblement National). Although the Place publique movement doesn’t have a declared candidate, they also received the document. All of them have until the end of the year to send in their responses.
According to Gabrielle Siry-Houari, co-founder of the initiative along with activist Marie-Noëlle Bas, this questionnaire allows us to “verify the willingness of the left, see if the right takes these issues into account, and force the far right to take a stance.” The document will...
It's more than just classic municipal topics. Candidates are asked about sensitive societal issues like prostitution and surrogacy. “This shows what the candidates really think, not just what they promise,” she points out.Voir cette publication sur Instagram
Gender-based violence and equality: the key issues at the heart of the campaign
The questionnaire isn't just about big principles: it digs into the practical implementation. Candidates need to outline their plans for training their teams on feminist issues, preventing and managing gender-based and sexual violence, and ensuring the exemplary conduct of their team members. This is a sensitive issue: “The political world is not spared, but it has failed to address these topics properly,” reminds Gabrielle Siry-Houari, referring to recent cases on both the right and the left.
Equality is also a central topic. While it is legally required, its implementation varies between parties and districts. Thus, the leading candidates are encouraged to clarify their vision on the matter.

The « Feminist Nutri-Score »: a brand new barometer
The candidates' answers will be analyzed to create a « Feminist Nutri-Score », inspired by the barometer launched by Osez le Féminisme ! during the 2022 presidential election. This will be published in February, one month before the election, and will allow Parisians to compare the programs on women's rights.

The goal goes beyond just the election: this observatory aims to last and inspire other cities. Dijon, for example, is already in touch with the organizers. "The main achievement of this questionnaire is to make candidates and their teams think. This can only be virtuous," concludes Gabrielle Siry-Houari. An original and concrete way to bring feminism into the municipal debate, and maybe even turn words into action!
As a reminder, 80% of women have already experienced sexist situations, 37% have already suffered from a "sexual relationship under duress", which includes sexual assault or rape, and more than one in two women refrains from going out alone or dressing as they wish, simply out of fear of being attacked, according to a report from the High Council for Equality.
