It's one of the strategic entrances to the capital. And since Monday, January 20th, it has embarked on its long transformation phase, which is expected to be completed by 2030. This project has been up for discussion for about fifteen years and aims to completely redesign the face of this roundabout that overlooks part of the ring road, which is currently anything but pleasant.

Create a connection between Paris and the suburbs

This new project, aligned with Anne Hidalgo’s goal to turn the "gates of the capital into squares", plans to completely redefine the use of this area, transforming it into a peaceful and pleasant meeting place for Parisians and the rest of the world, aka .

the residents of the nearby suburbs. For this, about 3,000 m2 of the ring road will soon be covered by a huge platform, to create a square of over 40,000 m2.

To make the neighborhood residents happier living here, car traffic will be reduced a bit, thanks to the removal of one of the three lanes currently available. Similarly, the entire center of the square will become pedestrian, and a modern two-way bike lane will be installed all around, highlighting soft mobility and safety. These measures will help to restore the historical link between Paris and Montreuil.

More and more trees

And, of course, this project couldn’t have been assigned to our current mayor if it hadn’t been accompanied by a massive greening effort. It...These works are an opportunity to build offices, a health center, and a hotel complex, but they also allow the City of Paris to take a step forward for the future of the planet.

The new platform will feature over 1.5 hectares of green space, blending tall trees, shrubs, and meadows that will surely delight young explorers, nostalgic seniors from the countryside, and workers at risk of burnout. This biodiversity will also benefit the local wildlife, like insects and small animals that will love taking refuge in the branches of one of the 704 trees planted. Join us in 2030 to discover all of this, and until then, stay strong for those who will bear a little of the construction…
