According to a recent study, 2 out of 3 French people experience stress. That's quite an alarming proportion that caught the attention of our friends at Figaro. With a team of experts, they set out to create a ranking of the least stressful cities in the Île-de-France region, to provide an escape route for Parisians looking to leave the capital without having to isolate themselves in the Creuse, a region that is supposedly very calm. We're excited to share the top 10 with you right away!
Stress factors everywhere!
To establish this ranking, the experts focused on 19 criteria, which they applied to the 30 most populated cities in the region. Among the factors studied were population density, transportation, the environment, the number of large green spaces, and infrastructure dedicated to leisure.
cultural or sports elements, for example. These are things that, independently of each other, help to reduce stress factors and bring about a sense of serenity. While some cities might have one of these perks, giving them a certain charm, others, on the other hand, pile up a number of them, creating true oceans of calm and limitless peace amidst the bustle of the Île-de-France.Sarcelles et Villiers-le-Bel ne sont plus parmi les villes les plus dangereuses pic.twitter.com/ODQNY17XTk

An Attractive Top 3
In third place in this ranking is the city of Rueil-Malmaison, located in the Hauts-de-Seine. This charming town, home to around 78,000 residents, has a lot to thank for the beautiful Saint-Cucufa forest, a vast green space that's super easy to access, as well as its calm traffic and a nearly complete absence of insecurity. However, we do wish it were closer to the capital, as getting there by RER can sometimes feel like a real challenge.

It’s followed by the commune of Versailles, which, not surprisingly, also secures a spot in the top 3. Among the factors that help it snag the silver medal are its calm atmosphere, beautiful green spaces (especially the castle park), and its proximity to the City of Light. We can also highlight the quality of cycling and safety, as the city is ranked among the safest in Île-de-France.
At the very top, we find Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, a charming little town in Val-de-Marne with a population of 75,000 residents. According to them, it offers an unmatched quality of life, close to that of the countryside, all just 15 minutes by RER from Paris. An exceptional combo that allows the town to stand out and earn the more than honorable title of livable city!
