The absolutely perfect illustration of the "Instagram vs. Reality". In the midst of her solo journey in Europe, Angela expected to step into the magical and enchanting world of "Emily in Paris". But once she arrived in Lyon, it was a complete mess, nothing went as planned.
@realphdfoodie Solo traveling in France is such an isolating experience. Do not recommend for solo travelers and people who do not speak French. #france #lyon #lyonfrance🇫🇷 #lyonfrance #solotraveler #solofemaletraveler #solotravelwoman #frenchculture #frenchcultureshock #fyp #fypシ ♬ original sound - RealPhDFoodie
Welcome IRL
Yes, in life, you don't instantly become friends with the salespeople the moment you enter a store. You don't find an ultra stylish apartment in just 2 seconds, for 3.50€ per month, and especially, you don't have new clothes EVERY SINGLE DAY that God makes. In short, we're not in a Netflix series.
This is a lesson that this young American learned the hard way, when she arrived in France on December 31st, for New Year's. She expected to have some good little restaurants, meet incredibly nice people, and maybe even land her dream job. But reality hit her like a ton of bricks.
To celebrate the new year, why not indulge in a "french kiss" that is said to be good for your health? You can find more information about it on this website.@realphdfoodie Arrived in Lyon France on NYE trying to find dinner. I thought I was going to eat escargot and foie gras tonight. 😭 #lyon #france #lyonfrance #lyonfrance🇫🇷 #nyedinner #nye2023 #frenchcultureshock #fyp #fypシ ♬ original sound - RealPhDFoodie
No way. She realized that, surprise, the French were not necessarily the most welcoming people in the world, and that they didn't always speak English very well. An experience she didn't expect, especially since she had taken the trouble to buy a cute pink beret to blend in and integrate more easily. Nice of her.
The video, posted on TikTok, in which she says, "France made me cry", went viral in just a few hours, accumulating over 5.5 million views! A great record, but we still hope that it won't discourage too many other tourists.Because we promise you, some of us are really very nice. And luckily, she finally met a friendly couple to cheer her up, phew.
@realphdfoodie Replying to @So Cal Los Angeles I didn’t not get a beret until my last day in Lyon France. But wearing a beret is not a crime! People might not speak the same language but kindness is a universal language. P.S. I met this awesome french couple when I dined alone at Le Merciere. Their table was next mine so I started chatting with them. They were super nice to me and even agreed to do a TikTok with me! #lyon #lyonfrance🇫🇷 #lyonfrance #france #beret #solotravel #solotraveler #solotravelwoman #solofemaletraveler #realphdfoodie #fyp #fypシ ♬ original sound - ar1esluver
