For several weeks now, there's been a hot topic on everyone's lips: the potential risk of a significant flood of the Seine. Back in 1910, the river's level reached a staggering 8.62 meters at the Austerlitz Bridge. Since then, such a height hasn't been reached, although we’ve seen major floods in 2016, 2018, and more recently in 2024. With the gray and chilly seasons approaching and rainy days on the horizon, the concern is certainly high.

To master the situation as best as possible and be able to guide Parisians if the Seine were to overflow violently, a simulation exercise called « Paris flooded » led by the City of Paris is scheduled for October 13th. A search engine has also been set up so that every resident of the capital can find out whether they live in a risk area.
A system to know if your home is in a flood zone
Its name? «EgoSeine. » This new system created by EpiSeine works like a search engine. The application allows everyone to find out what risks they face if the Seine rises, based on their place of residence. No matter your situation, the application provides advice to help you understand a flooding situation as best as possible.

A study published by the Paris Region Institute shows that over a million people are located in flood-prone areas in Île-de-France.
An often overlooked importance of risks
Such a tool is truly essential and the survey... ```The IPSOS survey conducted by EpiSeine in June 2025 proves this point. “Two-thirds of people are aware of the risk of flooding in Île-de-France, but when we look at the population living in flood-prone areas, we also find that two-thirds of those people don't realize they live in one,” explains Baptiste Blanchard, General Director of Seine Grands Lacs, to France 3 regions.
However, as EpiSeine points out, these severe floods can lead to “ interruptions of electricity, drinking water, sanitation, and transportation ” of indefinite duration.
