More than a thousand femicides during Emmanuel Macron's successive terms, 117 since the beginning of the year. 1 in 2 women have already experienced gender-based and sexual violence (GBSV). A trial with horrific circumstances, that of Mazan, which highlights more than ever the systemic and universal nature of patriarchal violence. In France, GBSV continues to be a concern despite #MeToo, which at least allowed some victims to raise awareness and speak out about their experiences, albeit without seeing justice served.

The movement has managed to revive the International Day on November 25, created in 1999 to raise awareness about the situation of women and LGBTQIA+ individuals who are subjected to violence worldwide. This year, the demonstration that symbolically precedes it falls on Saturday, November 23. Get your posters and your most powerful slogans ready, it’s time to turn your anger into screams, in Paris and everywhere in France!

A « Feminist Wave » all over France

« We are calling for a general mobilization and a feminist wave […] in the streets of every city in mainland France and the overseas territories on Saturday, November 23 », says the collective NousToutes on their website. In Paris, the event will kick off in front of the Gare du Nord at 2 PM and will wrap up around 8 PM at Bastille after various speeches. There is a form to fill out for those who wish to benefit from "Accessibility" services.

Big gatherings are also planned in Lyon (starting at 3 PM at Place Bellecour), Bordeaux (Place de la Victoire, 1 PM), and Rennes (Place de la République, 4 PM).

Triggering a « real wake-up call » on the subject

In total, over 400 organizations – including the Fondation des Femmes and Planning familial – and public figures – among them Angèle, Judith Godrèche, and Vanessa Springora – have signed a joint statement calling for a protest. « Successive governments have made numerous promises, but the resources are laughable and are decreasing, political action is almost non-existent», the signatories denounce, urging for a « real wake-up call » from the government. The Secretary of State for Women's Rights, Salima Saa, has already promised to detail on November 25 « concrete and effective measures ” regarding violence against women.
