He has forever marked the Parisian nightlife. An impact that is clear and unchanging, which the City of Paris has decided to celebrate during a vote on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Five years after his passing, the Mayor announced plans to rename part of the central median on Boulevard Marguerite-de-Rochechouart, located between Rue des Martyrs and Rue Dancourt, "Promenade Michou." A symbolic place, halfway between the old address and the former cabaret of the most famous Amiénois.

Michou and Pigalle Forever

At 2 Rue Dancourt, his former apartment. At 80 Rue des Martyrs, his iconic drag cabaret. Between the two, a short walk of 4 minutes on foot, along Boulevard Marguerite-de-Rochechouart. Undoubtedly the best place that could be chosen by the .City Hall of Paris to pay a final tribute to the "Minister of the Night" of the "Republic of Montmartre".

A project that, if it has finally been made official, is not new. Indeed, just weeks after the death of Michou, in January 2020, the city expressed its desire to pay tribute to him. It took until 2022 for the naming commission to give a favorable opinion, and then on February 12, 2025 for the proposal to be definitively voted on. And while the date for the change has not yet been announced, we imagine that it shouldn't take long.

The end of an era

This event comes only a few months after the announcement of the closure.

Definitive of Chez Michou, in the month of last July. After decades of celebration and exciting shows in Montmartre, the legendary cabaret had to close its doors due to financial difficulties. A historic turning point for this venue, open since 1956, and for Parisian nightlife.

A few weeks later, in October 2024, the comedian Gad Elmaleh announced that he would take over the management of the iconic venue, transforming this nightlife hotspot into a comedy club. He clarified that he would not be buying the name. So, while “Michou” may soon disappear forever from rue des Martyrs due to the opening of this new promenade, its legacy will live on forever in the 18th arrondissement!
