These 4 Parisian operas are opening their doors for free in May!

What if you discovered opera like you’ve never seen it before? From May 9 to 11, around twenty opera houses and lyric companies are opening their doors for free to the public for the All to the Opera initiative, including 4 in Île-de-France: the Palais Garnier, the Opéra Comique, the Royal Opera of Versailles, and the Massy Opera. This 18th edition, boldly titled Melting-pot, aims to celebrate the blending of influences at the heart of this often-overlooked art. Marina Viotti, mezzo-soprano, and François Chaignaud, dancer-choreographer, will be the spokespersons for the event.


Behind the Scenes of Live Shows 

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the grand doors of that impressive and mysterious building that has always intrigued you? Well, now’s your chance! Get ready to have the deepest secrets of your favorite operas revealed! With public rehearsals, costume and makeup workshops, backstage tours, shows, and concerts, you'll get the chance to discover the inner workings of this beautifully crafted scenery. It's a perfect way to get familiar with the crafts of the stage as well as all the artisanal professions connected to it, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the enchanting world of live performance. 

For now, the programming ...The official information hasn't been revealed yet, but usually, in Île-de-France, the participating institutions are the Palais Garnier, l'Opéra Comique, l'Opéra Royal de Versailles, and l'Opéra de Massy.


An Unprecedented Godparent-Godchild Duo 

In the last edition, Guillaume Diop, a principal dancer at the Paris Opera Ballet, agreed to be the godparent of Tous à l’Opéra. This young prodigy is succeeded, for the first time, by a duo just as prestigious, composed of the lyrical singer Marina Viotti and the choreographer François Chaignaud. One of them is, since this year, the first woman to have won a Grammy Award in the category of Best Metal Performance for her performance alongside Gojira at the opening ceremony of the Olympics; the other has been involved for over a decade in creating remarkable shows both in France and internationally, including Pâquerette, Sylphides.
