Ready to dive into the exciting world of puppetry? Far from being an art reserved for children's shows, the puppets at the Mouffetard – National Center for Puppetry are waiting for you this year! On September 23, the Left Bank institution will kick off its 2024-2025 season. With a rich, international, and committed program, it explores the political, social, and ecological issues of our time.

A fresh perspective on the world through puppets

Founded in 1992, Mouffetard – CNMa is opening a new chapter in its story with the 2024-2025 season. Through around twenty shows, this season will highlight artists from all backgrounds to tackle themes that resonate with our times. Between revolt, poetry, and reflection, the arts of contemporary puppetry take center stage here!

As highlighted by the season's theme, "Embrace the World", puppets are not just simple objects, but true reflections of humanity and society that help us better understand our ever-changing world. Through intimate stories and universal frescoes, they question our relationships with each other, conflicts, and the environment.

A program at the crossroads of contemporary issues

The 2024-2025 season at Mouffetard is marked by a strong political and social commitment. Shows like Embracing the Ashes by Renaud Herbin, inspired by the memory of the Lithuanian city of Klaipėda, or Rhinoceros by Bérangère Vantusso, a contemporary adaptation of Eugène Ionesco's work, sharply evoke the political upheavals.

es and global conflicts. Other creations like The Starfish by Marjorie Nakache and Han Chi explore ecological issues with a poetic underwater fable.

Far from a gloomy pessimism, several shows focus on showcasing solutions and hopes, like Arctic Tales by the Collectif de La ruée vers l'or, which depicts solidarity among characters in the icy lands of the Great North, or To Life, To Sea by the TOC Théâtre company, which celebrates intergenerational transmission and the power of women's stories.

An art that plays internationally

Le Mouffetard – CNMa also opens up to the international scene with creations from China, Quebec, Lithuania, and Norway. Here, the diversity of genres is highlighted.with honor, moving from the shadow theater (Min el Djazaïr) to the object theater (L’Amour du risque). These performances, brought to life by innovative artists, showcase the richness and creativity of contemporary puppet arts.

In May 2025, the International Puppet Arts Biennale (BIAM) will wrap up this already rich season with artists from all over the globe. This year, the Tchaïka Company takes center stage with three performances, including A Crossing, which dives into the theme of war through the lens of puppetry.

You got it, the Mouffetard – CNMa isn’t just about entertaining us, it challenges us, moves us, and gives us insights to understand the world around us. This season more than ever, puppetry will be a powerful tool to reflect on current issues. Don’t miss the official launch happening on September 23 with The Love of Risk, a quirky show by the Bakélite Company that combines humor and technology in a surprising ballet of robot waiters.
