The Editor

While a century separates the last two editions of the Olympics in Paris, the City of Light offers us a journey through time, at the crossroads between modernity and tradition: heading to the Roaring Twenties. For one evening, put on your best Charleston dresses, and draw your finest thin mustaches for an event that celebrates sports, culture, and history: the Olympic Ball. 100 years, that calls for a celebration! In 1924, as the capital hosts the Olympics for the second time in its history (the first edition took place in 1900), Paris embarked on a slightly crazy project: organizing a huge sports costume ball on July 11 (1924, that is) to celebrate the ongoing international event. 100 years later, some have decided to do it again, to invite Parisians to relive the excitement of those years. It was an exceptional event that brought together the entire cultural avant-garde of the time. From the Olympia tavern, the wild evening moves to the heart of the Orsay museum, for a highly symbolic moment, which of course fits within the framework of the cultural Olympiad that is taking over the Parisian institutions. This Gatsby evening will also mark the end of the event.ong> at the Orsay museum.

It's time to swing To dive back into the dancing nights of yesteryear where elegance and joy of living were celebrated, the museum calls upon the 14 talented musicians of the Umlaut Big Band, who will give their all to let you groove to the sounds of the charleston, foxtrot, and lindy hop (yes, they knew how to have fun back then). For one evening, it's a true journey into the past that awaits you. So we're counting on you to bring out your most beautiful vintage costumes and retro accessories, shine up your dancing shoes, and get ready with your feather crowns and pearl necklaces, and we hope to see you very, very many on the dance floor. via GIPHY Olympic Ball - Umlaut Big Band Orsay Museum Esplanade Valéry Giscard d'Estaing - 7th Saturday, June 22, 2024 More info
