As Fashion Week kicks off this Wednesday, fashion is popping up all over the capital, even in the museums. After the Louvre and its fabulous exhibition Couture, it's the Marine Museum that invites us to an extraordinary evening focusing on maritime attire. A unique night where you can dive into the museum's amazing collections, as well as sail through the different activities offered. Come aboard with us!

An Unforgettable Visit

To celebrate this special evening, you'll have the chance, as you wander through the galleries, to chat with Gabriel Courgeon, who is in charge of the textile collections at the National Marine Museum. He will be joined by real sea sailors (as opposed to freshwater sailors, these gro...s nuls), also known as the museum mediators. Like beacons in the night, they will be there to light your way and provide you with a wealth of information about the marine locker, especially its origins, its functioning, and most importantly its transition into the world of sewing and fashion. Spoiler alert: we can thank Coco Chanel and Jean-Paul Gaultier for that! On one side, the first to make the sailor shirt a fashion item, and on the other, its most passionate representative and defender.

A Wonderful Evening by the Sea

For this third "Contre-soirée", the Musée de la Marine is going all out, offering you a number of pleasure spots that you can access by sail or motor in the various rooms of the institution. You can discover, for example, the creations inspired by the sea theme from the students of the FCIL toiliste-patronnier of Lycée Paul Poiret. Each in their own way, they are reinventing the maritime wardrobe, particularly using recycled fishing nets.

In the great tradition of sailors of old, who didn't hesitate to tattoo the name of their beloved on their skin to avoid forgetting it during their journeys, you'll have the chance to enjoy a temporary tattoo bar.

Speaking of bars, a stop in the land of refreshments will also be possible, but this time for a fee. Finally, to top it all off, you can collect your foam diploma thanks to a workshop where you’ll learn how to make a boat knot bracelet, or even head home with a wonderful souvenir of your adventure on the waves, thanks to a photobooth to try out before setting sail. We don’t know about you, but we are already buzzing with excitement!
