On May 17, 2013, the law opening marriage to same-sex couples, more commonly known as marriage for all (and all, we dare to add) was promulgated during Hollande's term. Last year, this provision celebrated its 10th anniversary. Ten years that have not erased homophobia, stigmatization, disapproval from a section of society, but have allowed thousands of people to put a ring on their finger without their sexual orientation being a legal barrier.

The anniversary of such a societal advancement calls for celebration: on May 17, 2023, the City of Paris organized a gigantic Love Ball on the parvis of the Hôtel de Ville. Good news: the event is being held again this year, a sign of its success and necessity.

Dance for love (for free)

Following the same concept as in 2023: this second edition of the Love Ball aims to be dance-filled, festive, inclusive, and therefore free. Everyone is welcome: whether you are lesbian, gay, pansexual, bisexual, transgender, the ball is open to all Parisians, LGBTQIA+ communities and their allies, married couples, families, young and old, who wish to celebrate acceptancJoin us for an evening of celebration for all. Festivities begin at 6pm.

A top-notch program awaits the audience, curated by the teams at À la Folie (club in La Villette) and Chez Olympe (restaurant-cabaret located in Pantin). Bringing people together with joy, they will showcase the artistic and musical contributions of LGBTQIA+ minorities from the 1960s to the present day, highlighting equality and love as the central themes.

Award Ceremony of the International LGBTQIA+ Awards in Paris

Because May 17th is also the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, the event will allow the city hall to reveal the identity of the 2024 winners of the International LGBTQIA+ Awards in Paris, which recognize advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights. They are awarded by a jury composed of two co-presidents, Halba Diouf, a high-level transgender athlete, godmother of the 2024 Paris International Tournament, and Patrick Desmarais, president of the board of directors of the Emergence Foundation, as well as several recognized French and foreign personalities for their commitment to LGBTQIA+ communities. Among them, Asal Abasian, an Iranian journalist and queer feminist refugee in France,

Marie Cau, the first transgender woman elected mayor in France (in Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes, in 2020), or Sean Du, Secretary General of the Taiwan Tongzi LGBTQI+ Association.© Guillaume Bontemps
