It's undoubtedly one of the greatest mysteries of the 21st century. On April 15, 2011, near Roquebrune-sur-Argens, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès disappeared into thin air after murdering his wife and their four children about ten days earlier. It's a story that has captivated all of France, and continues to raise many questions more than a decade later. And it’s from far away that a new piece of information has recently reignited the investigation.
An Endless Mystery
In 2019, he was reported at Glasgow airport. In 2022, it was in a restaurant in Cannes that XDDL was supposedly seen. In April 2024, he reappeared, and was spotted both beach in Finistère, in the form of a… skeleton. More recently, the blogger Aquababe, aka the king of gossip on the internet, took on the heavy task of finding the most wanted man in France. This proves, if it was needed, that on the eve of the 15th anniversary of this historic crime, the investigation is far from being closed and filed away. And while one might have imagined that the fascination would fade, and calm would return, that is clearly not the case, as a new sighting, dating back to 2020 and until now kept under wraps, could very well relaunch the investigation, from the other side of the Atlantic.

A new twist
The most thrilling escape of the millennium (yes, we're not afraid to be dramatic) could it finally be coming to an end? Even though there’s a bit of doubt, the question arises following the new updates shared by the Brewster County Sheriff's Office in Texas! A public appeal was launched on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 to try to locate the fugitive, without the French authorities being informed. According to the local police statements, XDDL “may have been seen in 2020” in the county, walking “a black Labrador.” This sighting was unconfirmed back then, so this new appeal is more of a precaution than a real lead. There’s nothing indicating that he is in the United States (a theory notably supported by former policeman Gilles.Galloux, who worked on the investigation and details it in his new book, many are those who still think he is very much alive. Once again, it’s a story to follow…
