If you live in the capital and you are normally constituted, you definitely have your favorite neighborhoods and, on the contrary, those that you just can't stand. There are districts where just the mention of the number makes your hair stand on end, and you'd need to be paid to set foot there. Don’t worry, this slightly biased view is quite common, and it even represents the core business of the site ville-ideale.fr, which invites anyone who wants to share their thoughts on their living area. And the least popular district among Parisians might just surprise you…
Residents who are not afraid to speak their minds
For several years now, the website ville-ideale.fr has been offering the French a chance to rate their city based on specific criteria (environment, transportation, safety,...urité, santé, culture, commerces…) all rated on a scale of 10. And for the capital, the ratings are divided by district, allowing for a ranking of the best neighborhoods. Each one receives a score from Mr. and Mrs. Everybody, to provide the most objective view possible of the area. And for the énième consecutive year, it’s — quite surprisingly once again — the 10th that finds itself in last place.

While its rating has increased compared to last year (from 4.94 to 5.16 out of 10), the district continues to be criticized for its lack of safety, cleanliness, nocturnal troubles that disturb the peace of some residents due to noise and visual disturbances, and its unattractive environment according to reviews. And while everyone appreciates the abundance of transport options, the neighborhood still only earns a rating of just 4.62/10 for the quality of life it offers, with a general average that barely reaches 5.
A Little Peace and Quiet
On the flip side, it’s noticeable that the districts that rank at the top are mostly rather family-friendly, touristy, and above all… expensive: the 5th, leading the pack, with a lovely average of 8.49. The 9th, 15th, 3rd, 6th, and 7th complete the top 6. Places where people move when they have more than 2 kids and are ready to give a kidney (each) for a home. In the meantime, the reviews are glowing: it's clean, green, peaceful, access to education and culture is astonishingly easy, and most importantly, you feel safe everywhere. And that, well, is priceless (that's a figure of speech, of course).
