As athletes prepare for the upcoming competition, it seems that artists are also gearing up for the challenge. With sports-themed exhibitions appearing all over Paris, a strong connection between art and the 2024 Olympics has emerged with the installation of a symbolic sculpture in the heart of the 8th arrondissement at Charles Aznavour Garden. This impressive piece of artwork is now on display for all to admire. The statue was unveiled to the public on Sunday, June 23, portraying a young black woman seated. In her left hand, she holds a golden torch, a clear homage to the Olympic flame. And in her right hand... a branch of olive, representing peace, a crucial value of the Games.Named "Salon," the artwork features 6 chairs positioned in a circle around a young woman and the Olympic rings on the ground. This expressive layout symbolizes the desire to come together and make the Olympics a multicultural event. Each chair represents a different continent: West Africa, South America, China, and Europe (twice). The 6th chair, inspired by an ancient seat, pays homage to the origins of the competition. Artist Alison Saar, known for her socially conscious art, also pays tribute to the planet through her work. The creation, made of copper and volcanic rock, is resistant to the elements and environmental pollutants, ensuring its longevity. The statue was crafted entirely in France, in Puy-de-Dôme, showcasing local craftsmanship and reducing its carbon footprint. A remarkable piece that encapsulates the human and popular aspects, as well as the dreams of peace associated with the Olympics.
