Weather: A week between grey skies and scorching heat in Paris

That's it, this Monday, August 31st, it's officially back-to-school time (almost). And apparently, the weather decided to match our gloomy mood, just to really drive the point home. Fortunately, it seems the bad weather is only temporary, and our spirits, like the thermostat, are set to rise sharply by the end of the week.

Last weekend, major storms battered the Île-de-France region, making us instantly forget the various heat waves that struck the country all summer long. Grey skies, wind and rain have settled into the capital, and should stick around for a few more days. But, like all good things, bad things come to an end too, and the weekend should bring back some warmth… and potentially a new heatwave?


A cloudy back-to-school

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1st, all students across France will head back to school. A heads-up for parents wondering how to dress their little ones for this big day: for now, summer is definitely over

. Indeed, after weeks hovering around 40°C, early this week the mercury drops to around 23°C at the warmest part of the day, and most importantly, it seems that the sun will be notably absent until Wednesday. Occasional showers are also expected in the region, particularly this Monday, August 31st. The humidity at the start of the week should gradually give way to drier conditions and more pleasant temperatures.


A sunny weekend

Indeed, from Thursday, September 3rd, the sun will make its grand return, and temperatures will gradually climb to around 30°C on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This burst of summer weather will last several days, at least until the middle of next week. That said, experts are — pretty much — firm on this: this rise in the thermometer does not mean the return of another heat wave, and we're thrilled about that. With nights getting longer and longer, the temperature will have plenty of time to cool down each evening, one of the main criteria for defining a heat wave. In short, the message is simple: this weekend, the weather is looking ideal!
