Weather: Can we hope for a return of the sun for Ascension in Paris?

Once again, this week will be highlighted by one of the countless May holidays, and nothing could make us happier. However, one essential question remains: will we have the pleasure of seeing the sun and enjoying this holiday to soak up some vitamin D? Nothing is certain...

We all know that May is definitely one of the best months of the year, as it gives us the incredibly awesome chance to enjoy long weekends galore. But here’s the thing: some folks may not have the means or the opportunity to take off and travel far, so they find themselves stuck in the streets of Paris, crossing their fingers that the weather will at least allow them to make the most of the day. So, what about this week from May 11 to 17, 2026?


A week marked by the Ice Saints 

Before diving into the heart of the matter, let’s touch on the first few days of this week, specifically Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. And here’s some good news: considering the rainy weekend we just had, it’s not looking that bad! If this Monday morning is marked by some nice weather, things are definitely looking up!Persistent clouds, but they should make way for some sunshine in the afternoon. The clear spells will mostly stick around on Tuesday, also known as the most beautiful day of the week, by far. But hold your horses, don’t get too excited just yet! Even though Wednesday will remain acceptable, expect a few bad weather spells throughout the day, along with a greyer and windier atmosphere. At the same time, it’s not such a big surprise, since the start of this week falls during the frost saints period, which refers to the 11th, 12th, and 13th of May (that’s Saint Mamert, Saint Pancrace, and Saint Servais), a series of days when temperature drops and night frosts after spring-like weeks are quite common.  


A Not-So-Joyful Weekend

And unfortunately for everyone hoping to enjoy Ascension Thursday strolling through the streets of the capital, it looks like you'll need to revise your plans! This time around, the weekend will be marked by, you guessed it, rain. Not only will it be cold (with temperatures ranging from 5 to 14°C at the moment), but we can also expect showers throughout the day, and it's the same story for Friday. A little tip: if you're looking to do something fun, you might want to head to the cinema or the museum. Luckily, a (very) slight improvement is on the horizon for the end of the week, Saturday and Sunday. While the sky will remain mostly gray and lacking sunshine, the rain should become less frequent, and the temperatures are expected to rise dramatically, flirting with 20°C. And here's to the month of May!
