This Thursday morning, it’s hard to believe we’re in the middle of summer. The sky is gray, it’s pouring rain, and some areas are literally getting buckets of water dumped on them. The culprit? A cold drop, a weather phenomenon that’s like a pocket of cold air trapped at high altitude. The result: intense thunderstorms that have been lingering over the Île-de-France region for several hours, especially in the southeast and toward the northeast of the country.

A Well-Drenched Day
Météo-France has therefore kept 14 departments under orange alert for rain and flooding until 8 PM. Paris, the Petite Couronne, Essonne, Seine-et-Marne, as well as farther areas like Aube, Aisne, and Loiret, are affected. And it's no wonder: locally, we expect up to 70 mm of rain, which is equivalent to an entire month's worth... in just one day.
« This situation could therefore lead to runoff/flooding phenomena, especially in vulnerable areas (urban areas, low points) », we learn. After a brief respite in the late morning, new thunderstorm showers are expected in the afternoon. It won’t be until the evening that...calm will gradually return. Friday should also bring a bit of hope to the grumpy Parisians: the sky will remain cloudy, but some bright spells are expected, with milder temperatures around 25°C. A few showers might still fall in the afternoon, but nothing compared to Thursday's weather.

Calmness this weekend
Good news: the weather is generally expected to improve this weekend. On Saturday, the sky will be a mix of clouds and sunny spells, but no significant rain is forecasted. It will feel nice, with temperatures around 26°C in Paris. On Sunday, however, the sky might be a bit more unpredictable. While the morning looks calm, some showers might return in the afternoon or evening. Nothing too dramatic, but it's best to bring a light jacket or an umbrella just in case. Temperatures will drop slightly, with highs around 23°C. So, we just need a little more patience before we can enjoy that lovely summer air that was blowing through the region just two weeks ago.
