It's a rather surprising phenomenon that has taken over France since this Thursday, May 21. Indeed, over the weekend, we’ve noticed a rise in temperatures across the entire country, surpassing seasonal norms by 10 to 15°. And let me tell you, with the passing of the ice saints, it’s quite funny to pull out the sandals, shorts, and caps again! Nevertheless, this weather change can be explained in a perfectly rational way.

A breeze coming straight from the south

Once again, as is always the case when it comes to the weather, it's all about the wind. Indeed, a flow of warm air from Morocco is currently sitting above France. So, here we go, this wave of heat...

you're caught under the high pressures of a powerful anticyclone. We don't really get all these technical terms either, but the bottom line is that these phenomena cause the creation of a "heat dome", leading to a sharp rise in temperatures over the coming days. Basically, the anticyclone acts like the lid of a pot, trapping the warm air and making the temperature soar even higher, causing meteorological records across France. And the capital is no exception.

A Weekend of Beautiful Weather

If the southwest of France is expecting temperatures exceeding 35°C, which is quite rare for this time of year, over in the capital, the thermometer will still be around 30°C, and this delightful weather will stick around until the middle of next week. And to make things even better, not a single cloud will disrupt this exceptional weather, allowing us to enjoy a little preview of summer, and especially to dry out after weeks of relentless rain. Plus, it will be a good practice for the future, since experts agree: due to climate change, these heatwaves are expected to become more and more frequent in the coming years.
