We know it—Halloween hasn't even passed yet and people are already talking about Christmas. But then again, the year-end festivities will arrive much faster than we think, and the news keeps rolling in—like the biggest Christmas market in the Île-de-France region making a triumphant return in XXL version! And chances are, you've already spotted some lighting fixtures—still switched off for now—that have already been installed on the capital's streets in anticipation of the festive decorations to come. On the Champs-Élysées, the iconic illuminations are making their comeback this year—here's when!

A date to mark at the end of November

The long-awaited kickoff of the Champs-Élysées holiday lights in the 8th arrondissement will take place on November 22, 2026. For the occasion, the world's most famous avenue will be completely closed to traffic. Typically, exceptional personalities are invited to celebrate this grand event. Last year, Léa Seydoux and Charlotte Cardin were among the guests.

Meanwhile, the window displays of major department stores will also light up from mid-November through the beginning of 2027.

Dazzling lights paired with a market making its comeback

On the very same day, the Champs-Élysées Christmas market will make its grand return after nearly a decade away. It will be set up through January 4, 2027, and will feature food and beverage chalets alongside stalls dedicated to craftsmanship and traditional skills.

It had notably been eliminated in 2017 by Anne Hidalgo due to insufficient quality standards. After several months of proceedings, the market is ready for its comeback and vendor applications are now officially open.
