One might have thought it was just a passing trend, but the latest figures from the 29 bike counters in the capital tell a different story. Not only is the bike everywhere now, but it’s here to stay! This is a deep-rooted trend that has set several records this June 2025. While we’re thrilled that people are getting into sports and thinking about the planet, this new obsession has a double edge.
Gold Medal for Biking
No one could have predicted that today we would find so many bikes on the bike paths of the capital. Yet, it’s undeniable, this mode of transport has managed to establish itself as a must-have, as shown by numerous factors. First of all, the undeniable growth of bike-sharing companies: Vélib is adding more stations, and a new company will soon join Dott and Lime on the bike paths.
In the past decade, Paris has seen an unprecedented mobility revolution with the creation of 550km of cycle lanes.

Five million cyclists used Boulevard Sébastopol in 2023.

Another telltale example: the numbers recorded on the various bike counters in the capital, made accessible to the general public. While in previous years, the peak periods typically occurred at the start of the school year, in 2025, it’s the month of June that’s breaking records, surpassing by 4% the last record set in September 2023. Out of the 29 bike stations in the capital, 36% had record rates last month. Compared to last year, the quai d’Austerlitz saw an increase of 10% and the boulevard Voltaire shot up by 20%!
A surge in biking, but with some concerns
However, the growing number of bicycles on the streets of Paris inevitably brings along a number of questions and issues.ng> First of all, and no one can deny it, there is a lack of respect for the traffic rules among many cyclists. Similarly, dangerous situations are increasing, sometimes leading to dramatic situations.
D’année en année, le succès du vélo à Paris ne se dément pas. Selon les données de la mairie, de nouveaux records de fréquentation du réseau cyclable ont même été franchis en juinhttps://t.co/rAr3MacsZP

Finally, this overcrowding leads to a deterioration of infrastructure and cycling paths, including those that were recently developed. A great example is the Boulevard Sébastopol, which is only a few years old and is already facing saturation. The same issue exists on the Boulevard Magenta, where the bike lane is also on the sidewalk. The City of Paris has promised to do everything possible to create safe layouts that are suited for a better sharing of the road.
