Uber launches taxi rides with fixed prices in advance!

It's the brand new creation from Uber: the ability to book a taxi in the Paris region, with a price displayed right from the moment you place your order, accurate "to the last cent." From now on, the app will show the maximum fare for your ride even before you get in the car. A little revolution that could make traveling much easier for many.

We all know that taking a taxi in Paris can often be a huge source of anxiety. With roadworks and traffic jams at every corner, it's not uncommon to spend the ride glued to the meter, watching the fare climb higher and higher while wondering if it’s already too late to sell a kidney just to pay the driver. Luckily, the Uber VTC service has decided to save us from these cold sweats by setting up a taxi booking system, taking away those nasty price surprises!


Smart calculations for an advance predicted price

Since October 2022, the Uber platform has already offered the option to order taxis, displaying a price range.

Provisional prices for the ride. However, the discrepancies can be quite significant, sometimes more than €10 between the minimum and maximum prices, and this can put off quite a few people. And despite the success of taxi access via the app, the lack of visibility remains a hurdle for many.

Fortunately, this shadowy part will soon be lifted, as from now on, a price will be displayed in advance, showing the maximum fare for the ride. This amount will be calculated based on the day and time of day, with three hourly rates A, B, and C, plus factors like distance, type of car and its speed, potential traffic conditions, and special pricing for airports, for example. To establish these fares, Uber has analyzed thousands of rides since 2022.

And the great news is that not only will you not pay more than the price displayed at the time of ordering, but you can even pay less, as estimates are made on the higher side to avoid surprises.

A new feature that’s likely to boost the popularity of taxis against ridesharing services. Because while the latter are often slightly cheaper, they’re also slower, as they don’t have access to bus lanes and other reserved lanes. So we can expect a big success in the coming months for the "3,000 taxis available" on the platform.

This is especially great since Uber highlights that this new reservation system also helps you avoid huge lines at train stations or airports, as well as the discomfort of having to wait for a long time to find an eco-friendly taxi to hail on the streets of Paris.
