Could a war be brewing between railway companies? On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 8 a.m., Trenitalia officially launched its ticketing service for end-of-year trains, departing from Paris. The Italian company has stolen a march: its main competitor, the SNCF, won't launch theirs until two weeks later, on September 30, 2026, and it will cover journeys from December 13, 2026 to January 6, 2027, compared to January 10, 2027 for Trenitalia.

That said, there's one important detail to keep in mind: Trenitalia operates fewer routes than SNCF. Specifically, the journeys in question are the Paris - Lyon Part-Dieu, Paris - Lyon Perrache, Paris - Marseille, and Paris - Milan — with the last two serving several additional stations like Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Chambéry, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Modane, Oulx, and Turin. By contrast, SNCF serves around 3,000 cities throughout France.

When it comes to fares, Trenitalia really delivers! Expect to pay €23 for Paris - Lyon, €27 for Paris - Marseille, or even €35 for Paris - Milan between December 13th and January 10th, 2027.
