In 1992, more than 90 years after the Paris metro's line 1 came into service, the T1 made its debut on the streets of the Paris suburbs, between Bobigny and Saint-Denis. While it has certainly grown since then, now connecting Asnières and Noisy-le-Sec, its expansion may not yet be complete.

As work on extending and expanding the Parisian metro network has been progressing in recent years (quite literally!), it seems that Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has no intention of stopping there, with numerous projects at various stages of development. Among these, a new extension of tram line 1 heading west, which is becoming increasingly concrete… and could well come to fruition in just a few years!


From East to West

For several years now, extension projects have been announced for Paris's oldest tram line. To the east, the idea is straightforward: extend the line all the way to Val-de-Fontenay station. And work has already begun, particularly to develop the various spaces across the six new towns that will be served by the tram. To the w

rave; however, things are a bit more complex in the west. Indeed, a first section, connecting the current Asnières terminus to Petit-Colombes, is already under construction. And while it should be completed in 2024, it seems the line will finally be operational in… 2032. A massive construction project, certainly, but equally essential, as it will create a number of interconnections with RER lines A and E, for example, but also the future line 15, both to the east and west.
