Since Wednesday, January 1st, things have been a bit chaotic in transportation. With the disappearance of ticket booklets, the new not-so-nice price hike, and the introduction of a single ticket, it's hard to figure out what's what. Thankfully, here at Bonbon, we truly care about making your life easier, so we've put together a little summary of what’s changing and some handy tips to keep your nerves and your wallet (more or less) intact.

Everything You Need to Know About the New Single Tickets

This is probably the biggest change implemented by Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) in the last sixty-five years. On January 1, 2025, the transportation company said goodbye to its traditional 5 zones and introduced a single pricing system instead.

e; throughout the entire region, whether for Pass Navigo subscriptions or for tickets.

So, two new tickets appeared yesterday at noon! One covers the metro, RER, and trains throughout Île-de-France, available for the modest price of €2.50, and the other is for buses and trams, costing €2. These two new Grails will let you travel wherever you like for between 1.5 hours (for buses) and 2 hours (for metros), with no geographical restrictions.

A special case is the airport tickets, which allow travel to both Orly and Roissy, and will be available regardless of the destination for the sweet price of €13. Except for holders of an annual, monthly, or weekly Navigo Pass, who will enjoy some benefits!

right from the journey thanks to their subscription.

Goodbye, Booklets!

However, be aware of two important updates to note. First, there will be no connections allowed between the modes of transport covered by the first ticket and those covered by the second. So, if you need to take a bus after getting off the Transilien, you'll need to buy a new ticket. This means you'll have to pay €4.50 for your entire journey.

Second big news, and it's significant, there will be no more discounted rates on these tickets, as the 10-ticket booklet, which previously offered a nice discount (from €2.15 down to €1.73), is no longer available for purchase. Additionally, very soon, it will be impossible to get paper tickets (in a few months, once the stocks have been cleared), and all transit titles will transition to a new format.

Transport must be purchased with an Easy card or by phone

Prices That Keep Getting Less Interesting

Another big piece of news at the start of this year, alongside the increase in ticket prices, which mainly affects occasional travelers like tourists, is the rise in Navigo fares. Like every year, it has indeed taken more than 2€ hits, and this time, with the end of zones, it’s full price for everyone. If some folks aren't happy, well, it's the same for all.

So we’re telling you, and we’re repeating it, occasional travelers (whether you have an amazing bike or love working from home), there is a magic solution to save some money in these times: the Liberté +. We can’t recommend this pass enough, it’s worth it if you take less than 23 trips a month, which is pretty awesome! allows you to be billed at the end of the month, just like a toll.

This allows you to pay only €1.99 for each train trip, €1.60 for buses and trams, and it even includes transfers. If we take our earlier example of the Transilien and the bus with a Liberté+, it's just €1.99 instead of €4.50 that you'll need to spend! What more could you ask for?
