Many Similarities Between the Plaintiffs' Stories
The investigation started in 2015, when a 22-year-old American student made a complaint. She was contacted by Salim Berrada on Facebook for a photoshoot, which she agreed to. After being offered wine and feeling dizzy, she suspects she was drugged. Although her memories are blurry, she recalls being raped and photographed.
Three other women reported similar incidents the next year. Currently, there are 17 accusers. The 38-year-old man appears to have a consistent pattern: he approaches models on a Social network or Tinder, invites them to his studio in the 20th arrondissement, gives them alcohol - with suspicions of drugging - and coerces them into sex.
Salim Berrada denies the accusations
After spending two years in prison, Salim Berrada was released on judicial supervision in 2019, with a prohibition from practicing his profession as a photographer. Accused of attempting to reoffend by using fake names on dating apps without revealing his identity, he has maintained his innocence since the beginning.
According to his lawyers, Irina Kratz and Ambroise Vienet-Legué, the investigations have brought forward defense elements that contradict the accusations. Berrada claims that he used his photography profession as a "pretext" to fulfill his "sex addiction," denying any criminal intent. The upcoming hearing until March 29 is seen as an opportunity to finally debate and clarify the situation.
