On Monday, May 11, 2026, the new mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, spoke at a press conference, revealing what the «main directions of his term » will be. Among the five key areas he mentioned, there is a commitment to urban space development, aiming to make the capital a more beautiful and cleaner city. He plans to focus on «maintenance, improvement, and transformation of public spaces ».

The «  » across the capital

« I understand the dissatisfaction of many Parisians regarding the quality of public spaces », explained Emmanuel Grégoire in an interview with Figaro. Indeed, the new mayor wants to ensure the «  » in « all neighborhoods » of the capital.

So, how does he plan to make this happen? By paying « increased attention to sidewalks, construction sites, terraces, and everyday incivilities »,as well as “ the facades, the floors, the historical furniture, the bridges ,” he specifies. 1,000 black points will notably be presented at the upcoming Paris Council, serving as levers to activate in order to combat the degradation of Paris. The idea is to continue the work started by former mayor Anne Hidalgo, while “ improving the overall quality of life ” with a “demand for cleanliness and comfort .”

A dedicated delegate for the city's aesthetics

While he supports a more pedestrian-friendly city, Emmanuel Grégoire claims he is not opposed to cars and wants to create parking spaces “ for all those for whom the car is...a work tool and they need it every day ». He also wishes to speed up the pedestrianization of the banks of the Seine in order to create a 25-kilometer promenade and establish 80 pedestrian zones with at least one shaded sidewalk in every street where possible.

To act more effectively, the Mayor of Paris will be supported by a general delegate for design and aesthetics. The district mayors will also have a strengthened role in  local development policies .
