It's time to turn the page... After over 50 years of existence, Des chiffres et des lettres, the oldest TV game show, will disappear from France Télévision's schedules.

It was a must-see, a game whose name resonates with both the youth and our elders. It's the show that has rocked the evenings of entire generations and that was impossible to miss when spending the night at our grandparents' house. Airing since 1965, the TV game show "Des chiffres et des lettres" will disappear from the schedule next fall. "A difficult decision," confessed Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, director of channels and programs at France Télévisions, to La Tribune Dimanche.


« An emblematic meeting »

Originally named The Longest Word, it was in 1972 that the game adopted the title we know today: Numbers and Letters. After over 50 years of existence, the one that Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez describes as an « emblematic meeting » will have to leave the airwaves.


A program that has lost success since 2022


To close these decades of history, a « farewell show will bring together Patrice Laffont (former host and still producer of the show, ed.) and Laurent Romejko (the last presenter of the show, editor's note) will thank all the teams,” said the program director. The program, which has only been broadcast on weekends since 2022, will be replaced by the "€100 Game".
