Here it is! It's been over 7 years since the Château-Landon pool opened its waters to swimmers from the capital. But after years of scandal and several months of renovations, it will finally invite you to take a dip, starting Monday, February 23. This is great news for both water lovers and fans of Parisian history, as this pool is none other than the oldest covered swimming pool in the City of Light.
The First Pool in France
In 1884, right in the heart of the capital, the first covered swimming pool in Paris was inaugurated, and it’s also the first in France. A little revolution, thanks to architect Lucien-Dieudonné Bessières, assisted by engineer Edmond Philippe, and most importantly by Paul Christmann, hygi...enthusiast and strong advocate for physical exercise. At that time, the water is already heated, thanks to pumping stations located in La Villette.

While the building underwent a significant wave of renovations between 1925 and 1927 to transform it into the «ocean liner» style that gives it its truly unique look today, not much serious work had been done since then. Until 2018, when the impressive vault of the basin began to show serious signs of deterioration, prompting the decision to close the venue for safety reasons.
Finally, the reopening
This kicked off a period of doubts, promises, and protests about what to do with the place, how to renovate it, and the timelines involved. It ultimately took until 2024 for a colossal 14-million-euro project to begin. This project is expected to wrap up in just a few days, as noted on the si.You know you’re from the 10th when you see the town hall of the 10th, the swimming pool will be back in action this Monday, February 23rd at 9 AM.

Results of the work: a safer and more inclusive place for future swimmers, with the addition of access for people with reduced mobility (PRM). The pool has been completely refurbished, as well as the impressive glass roof, to bring back the pool's former glory. Lastly, the renovation was also an opportunity to make the pool more eco-friendly and respectful of the environment. Come on, let’s put on our speedos, goggles, and swim caps, and meet at the diving board?
