At the beginning of the year, the City decided to reassess the traffic plan for Gambetta Avenue, making it one-way. A decision that has had its consequences, as one of the streets in the neighborhood has become overrun by drivers who see it as nothing more than a «speeding lane». This situation is super dangerous for the residents, who are eager to make a change as soon as possible.

Driver, if you’re a champ, SLOW DOWN

At first glance, Orfila Street doesn't seem different from its neighbors. A little roadway like any other, not very wide, but it had been happily going about its street life without causing any issues for anyone. However, for the past few months, it has become the scene of recurring accidents and risky situations. The culprit? A change in the direction of traffic on Gambetta Avenue, which has led to...

grave; its extreme, making this axis the only possible route for many cars.

However, for drivers who wish to get to Place Gambetta from Pelleport station and have no other choice but to use the street, it has turned into a go-kart track. This has raised serious concerns among local residents. For example, there’s a young woman interviewed by BFM who, not only almost got run over by a reckless driver at a pedestrian crossing, but was also shamelessly insulted by her.

Enough is enough!

A danger aggravated by the narrowness of the street and the cars parked haphazardly on the side, to the point that garbage trucks can't even pick up the trash. In the face of this situation that has lasted for months, the reactions are many. Indeed, after numerous reports.

left unanswered in recent weeks, the residents of the neighborhood decided to level up by putting forward a petition, signed by about sixty people, which was then sent to the elected official of the district.

The letter, dated October 28th, requests the installation of speed bumps, as it seems that the speed limit of 30 km/h is not enough to curb the enthusiasm of some drivers. This is particularly concerning since the area has many schools and daycare centers, meaning there are very vulnerable young children around. In response, the City Hall of the 20th district stated that it would quickly address the situation, considering a new traffic direction change.
