At the beginning of the week, a tragedy struck the region, with the death of a construction worker due to the collapse of a crane caused by a tornado. To prevent any further repeats of this dramatic incident, the City of Paris decided to close all its parks, gardens, and cemeteries. Initially, the closure was only supposed to start at noon, but in light of the intensity of the expected gusts, it was ultimately decided to keep them closed for the entire day.

Île-de-France on alert

Behind this preventive decision, announced by the city on the official website, is a desire to protect all tourists and Parisians. As winds of “only” 70 km/h are forecasted in the morning.

they should very quickly intensify, reaching between 90 and 100 km/h in the afternoon. An undeniable power that could undoubtedly uproot some weak plants.

And the capital is not the only department in the region to take precautions, as the same announcement was made for all the parks and gardens located in the Hauts-de-Seine. Similarly, in the Yvelines, the Palace of Versailles has announced that the entire park, as well as the Trianon estate, will be closed to the public for the whole day, much to the dismay of some tourists.

A General Impact

Aside from the green spaces, and in a much more troublesome manner, some public transport lines are also being affected by restrictions due to the approaching storm. Thus, as of this morning, traffic was impacted on the RER C and D due to branches ...h; and even whole trees — on the tracks, and the SNCF announced as early as last night the closure of certain stations, and even some sections of tracks, on several Transilien lines.
