Last October, the Buttes-Chaumont lake in the 19th arrondissement had been completely drained of water and fish. And for good reason: this body of water had not been thoroughly cleaned in over 30 years! A few months later, after a beautiful makeover, the lake rose from its ashes, just in time for the arrival of spring and picnics on the grass. Six months of work finally completed After six months of dredging, the refilling of the Buttes-Chaumont Park lake finally began on the morning of Tuesday, April 9th. Three days should be enough for a complete filling of the 6,000 m3, say the garden maintenance services to Le Parisien. The safety barriers installed around the lake will only be removed at the beginning of next week. According to Le Parisien, it took about three months to extract the 2,000 m3 of mud and silt. They were accumulated in the lake over 30 years. A project that will have cost the City of Paris nearly 1 million euros.

Like a fish in water

On the wildlife side, the fish from the lake were caught last autumn and then released into the Canal de l'Ourcq. The 19th District City Hall and the City announced that the opposite transaction would not take place and would not be necessary. Carps, pikes, and breams will naturally return with the help of migratory birds, who often carry fish eggs on their legs. In any case, we are looking forward to seeing our favorite Parisian landscape again with the arrival of the beautiful days!
