It would be an understatement to say that the coming months are going to be busy for public transport users in the Île-de-France. Indeed, while several major construction projects are planned to modernize the network this summer, Line 4, one of the few automatic lines in Paris, and especially the only one that serves all the others, will also be out of service for almost a whole month. But what should we really expect?
Modernize, again and again
Specifically, service will be completely suspended between the Les Halles and Montparnasse-Bienvenüe stations from July 6 to 24, 2026. This disruption is quite inconvenient as it will affect no less than seven stations, including the Châtelet station, which is none other than the largest underground station in the world.
strong>. It's a relief to know that we narrowly escaped trouble since the stops Les Halles and Montparnasse-Bienvenüe, two must-visits, especially during school holiday season, will still be readily accessible, even though each will serve as a temporary terminus. This closure is part of the heritage renovation program by RATP, which involves significant maintenance work and rehabilitation of artworks on line 4 .

Backup Solutions
During the entire duration of the works, if you find yourself stuck in the capital because you can’t take a vacation or work remotely, don’t worry, there are a few backup options available for you. On one hand, the B line is a great alternative, especially regarding the major closed stations on line 4. You can also get creative by exploring lines 1, 12, or 13. And if all else fails, let’s head above ground and take advantage of the fact that the city empties (a bit) in July to catch the bus without too much traffic. Indeed, throughout the construction, lines 38 and 96, which have quite similar routes, will be available.
; the metro one, will be reinforced ! In the meantime, don't hesitate to plan your vacations as best as you can !
