We all know that the Seine is full of secrets, and its riverbed is covered with objects of all shapes and sizes, especially some pretty unusual ones. There are ancient relics, bottles, bicycles (by the hundreds), and since this morning, a bus too! This morning’s incident took place in Juvisy, in Essonne, and it involved a delightful dive into the river by a public transport vehicle that had 4 people on board.
More scare than harm
So far, very few details have been revealed about the incident, but according to the initial sources on scene, there were 4 people on the bus: an apprentice driver in training, his instructor, and two passengers. The apprentice is said to have lost control of the vehicle after maneuvering on a bridge, hitting an parked car before ultimately finishing up in the turbulent waters of the Seine.
At the same time, it would have pulled another vehicle down with it, which had just one person on board. Luckily, the five victims managed to make it back to shore safely, and the river police arrived on the scene very quickly to ensure everyone was out of the water. As for the vehicles, though, they are still in the water for now.
An image that will remain etched in memory
To ensurethe safety of everyone, and to allow for the establishment of a perimeter, the municipality of Juvisy has decided to suspend the circulation of five bus lines, the 4114, 4116, 4121, 4117, and 4118, until further notice. The City also states that it is dismayed by this incident whose circumstances remain unclear. One thing is certain, though, the image published on social media by the town hall will be etched in our minds for a long time, and we hope that this new refuge unlike any other will bring joy to the fish and other mussels that inhabit the Seine.
