After months of waiting, the summer terraces have come to brighten up our evenings at the beginning of April. And although the weather has kept us from enjoying them as much as we’d like for now, here’s some fantastic news! Not only will the sky be clear by the end of the week, but in just a few weeks, these temporary spots we love so much will once again be allowed to stay open a bit later than planned, and that makes us so happy!

A Little Breathing Room

Well, let’s manage expectations here; this year again, there’s no chance to enjoy the streets of the capital until 2 AM, or even until midnight like we could during the glorious time of the Olympics.

But as the saying goes, “every little bit helps”, and from June 21 to August 30, all the temporary terraces can extend their opening hours until 11 PM, instead of the current 10 PM, which will return until October 1, marking the closing curtain on the summer terraces for 2026.

A decision to celebrate, of course, but it does spark some debate, especially among certain neighbors of particularly lively areas at night. Because while, for us, an extra hour of opening means one more hour of celebration, and for the owners, it’s an additional hour of seats, for them, it could mean 60 minutes of noise and extra disturbances every single day. And we understand that this isn't always a walk in the park.

A situation under control

As a reminder, the summer terraces were implemented following the Covid crisis, then made permanent in 2021.

to help merchants face financial difficulties. However, in response to the anger of some Parisians regarding disturbances, the city hall states that “compliance with regulations will be particularly expected and monitored” this year. It hopes to manage the overflow, while offering Parisians a way to enjoy the nightlife without too much discomfort from the intense heat expected all summer long.
