Despite what its users might think, Line 14 is forging ahead and promises us (not-so) lovely dark days once again. And here’s why: RATP announced on Monday, November 25, during a press briefing, that our beloved purple line will be partially closed three days a week until at least August 2025, plus an average of one weekend day per month.
Disruptions Up Until Next Summer
After inaugurating 8 new stations and a extension to Orly Airport – just in time for the start of the Paris Olympics – Line 14 is continuing its journey and ongoing work to reach its final form. Indeed, extending this fully automated line requires a new metro control system, according to 20 Minutes, which forces RATP to make adjustments.
A partial service is being put in place to successfully conduct the tests.
Since September 9th, no trains are running between 10 PM and the end of service, from Monday to Thursday. Starting in January 2025, these partial closures will happen three evenings a week instead of four, from Monday to Wednesday inclusive, at least until next summer. On these three closure evenings, only one will affect the entire line. On the other two evenings, the entire southern part of the line – between Maison-Blanche and Orly – will remain open.

Complete closure one weekend day per month
In addition to the partial closures during the week, RATP specifies that the line will be totally closed to the public one weekend day per month on average until June next year. The schedule for disruptions has been revealed so that commuters can already plan ahead.
The last piece of information concerns the month of August : to finish things off in style, RATP announced 5 days of complete closure, from August 4 to August 8, 2025, inclusive. Fortunately, this closure occurs during a time of lower traffic, and it will allow for the software to be launched with its latest features, like the back-up mode, activated in case of an incident to unblock the tunnels and unload passengers at the stations.
